Well, a last minute decision saw Leon in action last weekend at Mallory Park. It was round three of the EMRA Championships. And Leon was racing in the Formula 600s and the Formula 400s, only he was riding the ZXR 400 in both events. I wasn't there to capture any of the action, but I believe it was a thoroughly enjoyable day indeed.
Let's start with the 600s then. This was always going to be tough for Leon as he was out there on a 400, but you would never have known! Not only did he manage to finish fourth in both races, he also managed to stick in a lap time 55.81...on a 400! Leon has been saying for a while now that there's a 55 second lap on a 400 round Mallory...and he proved just that! And it would have smashed his own lap record, only it didn't count as he was riding in the Formula 600s at the time.
Fair enough, but Leon obviously wanted to break his own lap record today. I say this because next time Leon was out on track (this time in the 400s), he did just that. His fastest lap time of 56.091 is now the new 400cc benchmark round Mallory Park. Well done Leon...amazing! And to top it all off, this was the day that they were competing for the 'Paul Vincent Trophy'...which Leon won. In fact, he will be taking if from Mike, who won it last year. BMC Racing have now won the trophy for the last three years!
It was also great to hear that Simon Edmondson (another BMC rider) had ridden brilliantly too. He managed to achieve a third and fourth place, and he now leads the 400 championship. Congrats to you too Simon...and good luck with the rest of the campaign...
(Proof of 'that' lap time.)
